Daily Diet—What Are You Feeding Your Mind?
“The most important of all factors in your life is the mental diet on which you live. It is the food which you furnish to your mind that determines the whole character of your life.”
So who’s in charge here? Chances are your subconscious has more to say about your day to day health than you realise since it absorbs everything you feed it without question. More importantly, it does not discriminate between what is true and what is not.

Placebo or Nocebo?
You’ve no doubt heard of the of the placebo effect – a beneficial effect that cannot be attributed to the properties of a harmless pill or procedure, since it has no inherent therapeutic effect. Any perceived benefit must therefore be due to your belief that it will work. The placebo effect is now recognised as responsible for approximately one third of all healing.
However, we give our subconscious around 60,000 instructions a day and psychologists tell us that about 70% of those are either negative or redundant. This is known as the “nocebo effect” and one that is detrimental to our wellbeing.
Dr Bruce Lipton is a cellular biologist whose research at Stanford University’s School of Medicine between 1987 and 1992, revealed that the environment [i.e. internal environment of thoughts in addition to external stimulus], operating though the membrane, controlled the behavior and physiology of the cell turning genes on and off. His discoveries, which ran counter to the established scientific view that life is controlled by the genes, presaged one of today’s most important fields of study—the science of epigenetics.
